Get Out Of My Head!

I couldn’t decide what I wanted to write about this week. There wasn’t one big thing that was jumping out at me. Instead, the inside of my brain looks like my closet right now. Shoes, bags, dresses, and a dirty laundry hamper all thrown into a small space that can be hidden by a door. My head, and my closet, are a hot mess. I have learned over the years that the tidier my home is, the better my brain works. So instead of writing this right now, I should probably be organizing my closet. But alas, here I am, sitting on the couch, with a laptop and some cold brew, getting ready to share the current contents of my brain with you. Enjoy the 5 things that need to get out of my head!

Christmas

Today is Halloween, which means tomorrow is the first official day of the holiday season. And there’s nothing I love more than gift shopping. I’ve been told that gifts are my love language. I love giving and receiving.

I start (in like, September) by making a list of everyone I want to give a gift to. As I spend time with those people over the next few months, I listen. What are they talking about these days? What do they point to on someone else, in a store window, or on a commercial, and say “ooohhh, I like that!” What’s something they’ve been looking for and can’t seem to find? I don’t think there’s anything I’m better at than finding what you’re shopping for. Ask my mom. At least once a week she’s talking about something she can’t find. Within minutes (sometimes seconds), I’m sending her a link to that exact item.

I don’t have my entire list completed yet, but here’s some of my favorite brands and gifts that never go out of style:

Capri Blue Candles- It doesn’t matter what scent you choose, you, and your chosen recipient, are going to love it! But my personal fave is the cult classic, volcano.

The best towels ever. I gifted a few people their makeup towels last year, and they were a hit!

Anything Rifle Paper Co. But how cute is this tote bag?

Oh, I almost forgot. We celebrated Halloween last weekend. I reprised my role of Barbie. But Ken didn’t show up. Instead I got a Greek God. 😉

Baseball

Yep. Still thinking about baseball. But you should be too! Tonight is the night. Today could be the last day of the season. If you’re a baseball fan- a true baseball fan- like you value the sport, itself, over your own team, then you want the Toronto Blue Jays to win tonight and thus, win the world series. The underdogs. The amazing rookie pitcher. The friendships. The team who hasn’t won in 32 years (versus the team who just won last year). Everyone cross their fingers, their toes, and everything else for a big win tonight! They have 2 chances to win, but let’s just get it done. I made time to watch tonight. I have plans tomorrow.

Fall Shoes

Did you see my stories the other day? I just got the cutest fall flats from Loeffler Randall. I can’t wait to debut them with a short fall dress.

AND I finally bit the bullet and bought the Tory Burch mules (…clogs…what’s the difference?), and I’m in love!

Apparently I’m really feeling brown this year, because I also ordered these beauties. I’ll share in my stories when they arrive.

Piercings

I got 4 of them this week. Four new holes. Don’t worry. They’re all in my ears. Did you know Ulta does ear piercing? A friend hadn’t worn earrings in years and mentioned to me that she wanted to get her ears re-pierced. I wear earrings daily, but a long long LONG time ago, I got 2nd holes and haven’t used them in years. So off we went to Ulta. On a whim, I decided to get 2nd and 3rd holes on both sides! I know it sounds like nothing, but a spontaneous decision like that (every now and then) really resets me and adds some fun to my week. I get excited when I look in the mirror and remember what I did. 😀

Food & Diet

You got excited when you saw the word food, right? And then disappointed at the next word? I get it. Lucas and I have been vegan for 5 years and 4 years, respectively, and it was the best health decision we have ever made for ourselves. But even good decisions need some tweaking every now and then. And even healthier diets aren’t always the healthiEST. It’s easy to be an unhealthy vegan, and a few months ago we found ourselves going out to eat too much and relying on processed foods for quick and easy meals way too often. So that meant it was time for a change. We are now focused on fresh foods and super paying attention to sodium amounts. One week in and we’ve both lost a few pounds and don’t feel as “ugh” after eating as we used to.

But this is all thanks to Lucas. I always say that Lucas makes the food, and I make the drinks and conversation. Haha! At least I’m self aware and honest about who I am as a hostess. 😉 Enjoy some very unprofessional photos of his extremely professional tasting creations this past week:

So yeah, my brain is basically that closet I keep threatening to organize but never actually do. But at least it’s all fun to talk about! The gifts, the shoes, the piercings, the vegan shake-up, and the baseball underdog dreams (Go Blue Jays!). Life’s little compartments don’t always stay neat, but I kind of love the mess right now. It’s the good kind of chaos. It’s the “my favorite season is starting and I just bought new shoes” kind of chaos.

If you take anything from this week’s brain dump, let it be this: do something small that makes you feel excited again. Get the extra piercing. Light the candle that smells like your own brand of happiness. Wear your favorite boots. Make the healthier choice. And then celebrate with a little gift to yourself, because honestly? You deserve it.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to finally clean out that closet. Or probably just make a gift list for my next post. We’ll see which wins. 😉
